Unedited & 2 Drafts

On the top is my unedited image, which is raw and unrefined. This is the picture that I think has the potential and has a really good lighting especially the low key lighting on his face. i used red, white and black which conforms to a R&B magazine. i made the artists' names in white as it is eye catching which can then lead to the reader buying the magazine. Also some may say that white connotes to modesty and purity although most R&B artists may be seen as a brutal person. The important topics on the sell lines and headline are in red as this is also eye catching and it summarises what it would talk about. I used lines to divide the sell lines but for the masthead I used this to make ' Mark Sotto' stand out as he is the main image and emphasises his importance. In terms of the picture I enhanced the image by using more contrast accentuating the shadow on his face and the lights behind him. Moreover some may say that the ratio between the dark to light is much higher that can connote to his dark side and that the image may seem minimal but the image can show that he has two different sides to him and the darkness is overpowering the light.

Music Magazine | Unedited Pictures

These are series of images that I have taken with my model. I have taken various different pictures from many different angles. I wanted to go with a minimal photo and didn't want to include any props but the lightings, the lightings take a big part in this as it creates the mood within the image. I wanted to highlight the shadow on his face to create the mood. But at the same time like shown in the first 13 pictures my model has got his arms crossed, this can portray a brutal and sturdy side to him, this conforms to most R&B artists. But I didn't choose these set of pictures as it was too plain and wasn't really exciting, so as a result I took more pictures. From 1:39 - 1:43 these are a series of photos where my model is doing the same pose, however it goes from mid-shot to close up. I have asked students who are interested in R&B and asked which one had more impact in the end the mid-shot is more effective , also this is the photo I have chosen as my final picture (1:43)

Interview For My Questionnaire | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqzUwcJ5qXQ

Sketch | Draft Idea

The masthead 'JUICY' would be in white and I have found this interesting font in Dafont.com that has a dripping effect which I though was very relevant to my masthead. Although I am not sure if this would look aesthetically pleasing, so therefore I would have to make a questionnaire asking whether they think that this font would look professional and competent. The main colours are Red, White , Black and Blue. I want my model to be posing in this certain way although I know it is quite minimal but I want to create the mood of the magazine through the models facial expression and his seriousness as this is what's usually seen in an R&B music magazine. In terms of lighting I want to focus and accentuate the shadow that would be on his face, I would then have to experiment on the lighting as I want the other side of his face to be contrasting and be relatively bright. The magazine of Kanye West as the front cover for Rolling Stones has inspired me to take my picture in this way as it looks aesthetically pleasing and relatively slick ( image added above).  Moreover through mise- en - scene I would prefer if my model wears a vest as this is minimal and most male artists' are often depicted with a black vest, also I would like him to wear a gold chain, preferably one that can suggest something about his religion which can be controversial but it also shows their innocence and the readers viewpoint may change from this. Gold can also connote to money and wealth, this is a colour that stands out especially if he wore a black vest.

Planning Ideas

To identify my genre target audience:

Genre: Contemporary R&B

About: In 1948 RCA Victor was marketing music under the name " Blues and Rhythm", which usually consists of gospel, jazz and blues, begins to take shape as a genre. R&B is a well known genre as it is usually played on music channels and radios. The age group can vary from 12-30 year old, and is widely appreciated by a wide range of audience.

Theme:

Masthead:  Below are the divergent ideas for my Masthead that is associated with Contemporary R&B
       Juicy
       Fresh
      LiVE

I chose to use 'Juicy' for my masthead as it is a classic song from Biggie Smalls who is a well known R&B artist, the word can also connote to fresh and may contain a lot of new information that are reliable that may contain information about latest album and it supports the sell lines and the headline.

Headline:

Mark Sotto ...the most wanted artist of 2015

Sell Lines:

Do You Like... Miguel
Q&A with Drake
Celine talks about the REAL meaning of R&B

I chose to use the Headline ' Mark Sotto ... the most wanted artist of 2015' because it would be interesting as this may be a topic with various amount of opinions which can then persuade the reader to buy this magazine. The use of ellipses can also build up the tension and can forebode a tension within the magazine as it may seem intense reading from the headline.

Evaluation / Front Cover

This is my finished Front Cover after editing it using Photoshop and also Power Point. I have stuck to my initial idea, such as the sell lines, headline , picture and the mast head. I like the way the image looks very professional this then makes it aesthetically pleasing. However it was quite hard to find a text colour that would stand out but still look good, as it was relatively hard to find the right colour due to the leaves at the background. But overall I am quite pleased with the overall outcome.

Analysing A Magazine

In this magazine there is a clear and bold 'Vogue' masthead which is striking to the audience. The headline ' Megawatt fashion' is right in the middle of the front cover , it is also in bold making it eye catching. Through the various different sell lines the colour light blue is constantly being used to highlight a certain keyword which captures the readers attention. The camera is pointing Front View to present the model facing the camera directly at a middle shot angle to show her confidence and prominence in the image.

Unedited Pictures

I chose the last picture because everyone was in a position I wanted to be in, there is a clear pattern of boy and girl which is aesthetically pleasing as it shows an organised arrangement. The use of the tree at the background can also suggest the month this magazine is being published, and can set an autumnal setting making the front cover more appealing to look at, although I may find it hard to find a font colour that would go well with the colour of the leaves. The use of Ring binders, Folders and Prospectus can help suggest the fact that this is a sixth-form or school magazine.

My Initial Idea

This is a quick sketch of my what I intend to have achieved by the end.I wanted to use a bold mast head as it really stands out to the audience. 'S.F.M' stands for Sixth-form Magazine. My magazine is going to be about the Sixth-form in general, from how to lay out your revision table to work experience. I want my target audience to be a wide range from the ages of 13-18 years old. Also I want my button the attract my audience as it may also encourage them to buy the magazine. My masthead is ' Achievable A's' the use of Alliteration makes it catchy and straight to the point. I want my models to be in a orderly pattern of boy, girl etc. as it is aesthetically pleasing, also a diverse race as it shows how different people can be in the sixth-form but still have a bond even through education
